Hi,Three weeks ago I had a steroid injection in my shoulder to treat shoulder and upper arm pain, however the injection didn't work at all.Sad My rheumy nurse arranged for the nurse at my GP's surgery to give me a systemic steroid injection in the buttock, which I had done yesterday, and the nurse explained it should give pain relief not just to the shoulder and arms but also to my other pain hot spots such as hands, wrists and knees. This morning all the pain is still there and I wondered if anyone knows how long this type of injection takes to work.I've now got pain in the neck to add to my list! Last year I took a course of steroid tablets for one month and they worked so well,I stayed almost pain free for 5 months but for some reason the rheumy consultant won't put me back on those, even for a quick fix,but these injections seem useless.Has anyone else had good results with the jab?If so,how long did they take to work for you? Brenda.Smile

i've had great results with depo-medrone before, twice. i started feeling crackling and relief a few hours after the jab, and it pretty much carried on from there for 3 or 4 days gettting better and better. i think i've heard of others taking longer.
i'm having a shoulder jab next week, i hope it works, it must be so disappointing for you if it doesn't. and i really hope the depot works soon as well.

Hi

I had a steroid jab in one of my finger joints the other day and the surgeon told me it could take up to two weeks to work. I think it depends on the type of steroid, but don't quote me on that!

I think the Arthiritis Research Campaing have a leaflet on steroid jabs that might be of help.

I have had the intramuscular depos in the past and they have always worked well for me.
I had my shoulder injected in December and the result was fantastic, now totally painfree in that shoulder.
I've just had my knee injected this morning, hurts like hell now but I'm hoping for the same good effect.
I hope the one you had yesterday helps Brenda.

I had an injection into my bottom in January. It was not until the Saturday that I really felt the benefit. I remember thinking to myself that I would be one of the ones that it had no affect on, but I was lucky and it did!!!!!

It's still early days so don't give up hope yet. It didn't make me feel like 'Wonder Woman' which I was expecting, but it did make a big difference.

Hope it starts to work soon.

Love Paula xxx

Sorry Brenda...just read what I've put and it didn't make sense. Obviously doesn't increase brain power.

Had it on the Tuesday and didn't feel benefits until the Saturday.

I've had joint injections and intra-muscular ones, Some of the joint ones didn't work at all, but most did. I found the i-m ones seemed to work well. I think it can take a few days to feel the full effects.

I hope it works for you soon.

Well,it's been 6 days since I had the steroid injection and I've only noticed very slight improvement in the shoulder/arm pain.Confused All other joints still stiff, knees, hands, wrists and neck.Because the short course of steroid tablets worked so well for me last year and I had no problems with them and no difficulty in coming off them,I did think the nurse would prescribe them again just for a quick fix.I have an appointment with my GP tomorrow but I know he won't prescribe any different treatment because most GPs feel like they are stepping on the consultants toes. The rheumy nurse did say if they injection hasn't worked in about a week then to give her a ring. She's away till Wed. so I will probably have a word with her then.I don't see the consultant till end of July and it won't be till then that he will decide whether he adds another med to what I'm already taking. It's strange because my bloods test and Das score have been fine so I thought I would be feeling a bit better. So just because bloods are OK it doesn't means things are getting better does it? Confused Brenda.
